장서각 소장 유희 『시물명고』에 대하여 = The Simulmeyeonggo by Ryu Hee in Jangseogak

Among the works included in the anthology Muntong (文通) by Ryu Hee (柳僖), Simulmyeonggo (詩物名考) is one whose purpose and period of composition are relatively clear. Compared to Mulmyeonggo (物名考), the work stands out for its uniqueness, and Ryu Hee himself praised it as a “book that must be passed down to future generations.” Compared to other works from a similar period [e.g., Simyeong Dasik (詩名多識) by Jeong Hagyu (丁學游)], Simulmyeonggo is notable for its “relative difference” in that its discussion centers on “vernacular translated names of things.” Despite the book’s literary value, Simulmyeonggo has largely been overshadowed by Mulmyeonggo, and has thus lacked proper attention. This study clarifies Simulmyeonggo’s bibliography, purpose, format, period, and uniqueness, thereby providing a foundation for future research and applications. The hope is that the various findings revealed herein will serve as an opportunity to deepen and expand research on Simulmyeonggo in various fields.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

『詩物名考』는 유희의 『文通』 가운데 저술 목적과 시기가 비교적 분명하게 드러나는 문헌에 속한다. 『物名考』와 비교할 때 독자적 저술성이 두드러져 유희 스스로도 ‘후세에 반드시 전해야 할 책[必傳]’으로 자평한 문헌이기도 하다. 동시대의다른 문헌(예: 丁學游의 『詩名多識』)과 비교해도 ‘언석’을 중심으로 논의를 전개한점에서 ‘상대적 차별성’이 두드러진 문헌이었다. 이러한 저술 가치에도 불구하고『시물명고』는 그동안 『물명고』의 그늘에 가려 제대로 주목받을 기회가 없었다. 이글에서는 『시물명고』의 서지를 비롯하여 저술 목적과 체재, 저술 시기와 성격 등을 구명하여 『시물명고』의 향후 연구 및 활용에 기초를 제공하고자 했다. 이 글에서 밝혀진 여러 내용이 앞으로 『시물명고』에 대한 연구가 다방면으로 심화, 확장되는 계기가 될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.
