This study aims to develop an instructional model for Integrated Subjects in Korean elementary schools based on Paulo Freire’s concept of generative themes. To this end, the study first analyzes the conceptual foundations and key characteristics of Freire’s generative themes, as well as the concrete procedures through which Freire applied them in educational contexts. Then, Freire’s procedures are restructured to align with the aims of the 2022 Revised Integrated Subjects, tailoring them to suit elementary classroom settings. Finally, the proposed model is implemented in an actual classroom to examine its feasibility and validity. The instructional model developed in this study offers a practical tool to realize the key aspirations of the 2022 Revised Integrated Subjects, including its emphasis on “the here-and-now of our lives” and “the decentralization of authority over curriculum development to classroom.”
