The objective of this study is to empirically analyze the effect of safety awareness on social capital. To this end, the study conducted a detailed analysis of each component, taking into account the multidimensional characteristics of safety awareness and social capital. The findings can be summarized in three main points. First, only neighborhood-level safety awareness was found to exert a statistically significant positive effect on network formation. Second, both regional- and neighborhood-level safety awareness had statistically significant positive effects on interpersonal trust. Third, community consciousness was positively and significantly influenced by safety awareness at the societal, regional, and neighborhood levels. These results suggest that residents’ perceived sense of safety in their immediate living environment constitutes a critical foundation for fostering social interaction and cohesion.
