With the recent emergence of the Northern Economic Zone and consequent policy shifts among countries within the East Sea Rim Area economic bloc, the revitalization of the regional economy is anticipated, accompanied by large-scale investments and expanded governmental policy support for infrastructure development. In particular, the initiation of container shipping services at Okgae Port, the completion of the Seoul–Gangneung KTX line, the construction of the Donghae Line between Gangneung and Jejin are expected to enable the Yeongdong area of Gangwon Province to function as a strategic logistics hub and forward base for the Northern Economy. Against this backdrop, the advancement of Okgae Port requires the formulation of proactive revitalization strategies.
This study investigates the logistics characteristics of export-import enterprises in Gangwon Province with high potential to utilize Okgae Port. Based on 2022 data from the Korea Trade Statistics Promotion Institute, 1,796 companies. From these, 229 companies with accessible corporate details were selected for further analysis. A full-scale survey, conducted via structured telephone interviews, examined the firms’ logistics operations and primary commodities. The findings were subsequently analyzed to derive strategic measures aimed at promoting container logistics through Okgae Port.
