This study examines domestic and international cases of intergenerational contact zones(ICZs) and seeks ways to build community environments that promote intergenerational exchange. A total of six cases were identified through online sources and analyzed based on the following dimensions: operating entities and forms of collaboration, physical characteristics, forms of intergenerational interaction, social inclusion and accessibility, and sustainability. The findings are as follows. First, the operation of ICZs maintained sustainability through collaborative governance involving diverse local stakeholders. Second, the physical structure of the intergenerational contact zones (ICZs) functioned as a foundation for inducing spontaneous encounters and emotional connections between generations. Third, both formal interactions centered on planned programs and informal, everyday contact were found to coexist within the ICZs, indicating a multifaceted mode of engagement. Fourth, most of the cases were characterized by open and inclusive structures that allowed interaction regardless of age or social background. Fifth, ICZs demonstrated the potential for sustainable communal relationships through connections within the local community. Based on these findings, the study explores strategies applicable to creating intergenerational exchange environments in Korean society.
