The growing consumer demand for functional cosmetics targeting skin aging and damage has underscored the importance of developing novel bioactive formulations capable of enhancing skin regeneration. Skin wound healing is a complex and highly regulated biological process involving sequential phases of inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Among these, the migration and proliferation of fibroblasts are pivotal during the early proliferative phase, as fibroblasts migrate to the wound site and synthesize extracellular matrix (ECM) components, including collagen, thereby facilitating tissue reconstruction.
This study aimed to evaluate the potential of a novel composite formulation, termed S-C-F comprising Stellera chamaejasme leaf extract, Centella asiatica-derived exosomes, and fish collagen—as a functional cosmetic ingredient promoting collagen regeneration in fibroblasts. Cytotoxicity assays confirmed that the S-C-F complex was non-toxic at concentrations up to 1X, validating its safety as a functional cosmetic material. RT-PCR analysis showed that TGF-β1 expression was upregulated in a dose-dependent manner, indicating that the S-C-F complex effectively stimulates early signaling pathways associated with wound healing and skin regeneration. In contrast, COL1 expression was significantly decreased at 1X concentration.
These findings support the efficacy of the S-C-F complex in promoting fibroblast-mediated collagen regeneration and provide a scientific foundation for its use as a functional cosmetic ingredient. Future incorporation of additional collagen-promoting components, together with further in vitro, in vivo, and clinical validation, may enhance its potential as a wound-healing and anti-aging formulation in the cosmetic industry.
