IB 교육과정을 통해 본 초등학교 저학년 통합교과와 미래 음악교육의 방향 = The Integrated Curriculum for Lower Elementary Grades in the IB Program and Future Directions for Music Education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문의 목적은 IB 교육과정을 통해 초등학교 저학년 통합교과의 비교 분석으로 앞으로 미래 음악교육의 방향을 전망하고자 한다. 이룰 위해 분석 과정은 어떠한 체제의 좋고 나쁨을 가리는 단순한 비교 차원을 넘어 유사점과 차이점을 강조하고 상대적인 강점과 약점을 살펴 이로써 나타나는 한계를 통해 미래 우리의 음악교육의 방향을 재조명하고자 한다. 이러한 결과에 따른 미래 초등학교 저학년 음악교육의 방향은 첫째, 통합교과는 두고 초등학교 저학년에‘음악’교과가 신설되어야 한다. 둘째, 통합 가능성을 열어두고 통합교과와 독립교과의 융통성있는 병행을 강구해야 한다. IB교육과정과 우리나라 통합교과 운영의 차이는 통합에 융통성을 부여하느냐이다. 따라서 통합의 가능성과 함께 주제 학습에 필요한 지식과 기술 습득이 병행되어야 한다. 셋째, 교사의 자기주도성과 전문성은 함께 강조되어야 한다. 자율성이 주어진다는 것은 그만큼 전문성이 뒷받침되어야 한다는 것을 유념해야 한다. IB교육과정이 확산되고 있는 시점에서 국가 교육과정과의 적극적인 연계가 깊은 숙고의 과정을 거쳐 앞으로 우리 초등학교 저학년 음악 교육계에 잘 정착되기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores future directions for music education by comparatively analyzing the integrated curriculum for lower elementary grades based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. Rather than simply evaluating the merits and drawbacks of different systems, this study emphasizes similarities and differences to examine their relative strengths and weaknesses. Through these findings, it aimed to reflect on the limitations of current practices and provide insights into the future of music education. Based on the results, the proposed directions for music education in early elementary grades are as follows: First, the subject of “music” should be newly established within the lower elementary curriculum alongside the integrated curriculum. Second, flexibility should be ensured by allowing the coexistence of integrated and subject-specific curricula. Third, both teacher autonomy and professional expertise have to be emphasized simultaneously. Lastly, a structured teaching approach, supported by textbooks, contributes to greater classroom stability.
As the Korean proverb goes, rice cooked in haste is half-done. In this context, careful and deliberate coordination with the national curriculum is essential for the successful integration of these changes into Korea’s music education landscape.
