This study analyzes the sociocultural impact of the Galleon Trade and the role of Chinese Mestizos from the 16th century to the early 19th century during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Galleon Trade, as the first global trading network connecting Asia, the Americas, and Europe, represented an international commercial network that complexly integrated Spain's colonial strategy, China’s commercial growth, and the Philippines' geopolitical intermediary role.
The findings reveal that the Galleon Trade facilitated not only the exchange of commodities but also generated long-term circulation of human capital, technological knowledge, and cultural elements, with Chinese Mestizos at its core.
As symbolic figures of complex identity and cultural fusion linking China, the Philippines, Latin America, and Europe, they exerted profound influence on the sociocultural landscapes of each region through commerce, technology, language, and arts.
This study illuminates how the Galleon Trade fostered the exchange of cultural symbols and sensibilities, while reexamining Chinese Mestizos as cultural intermediaries who shaped global cultural flows. The significance of this research lies in its elucidation of the universality and creativity of Chinese culture within the early modern world order, as well as its mechanisms of interaction.
