This study conducted to enhance the competitiveness of the citrus industry by breeding ‘Dalkomi’(C. spp), a new high-quality citrus cultivar that can be late year harvested, thereby diversifying the current reliance on satsuma mandarin(C. unshiu). ‘Dalkomi’ was developed through artificial pollination using ‘Ehimekashi No. 28’ as the seed parent and ‘Setomi’ as the pollen parent. Selection and trait evaluations were conducted from 2011 to 2019, and the cultivar was officially registered in 2022. The tree attitude and vigor was uprigh and strong. It blooms in late April and is harvested in mid-December, similar to its seed parent. The fruit has a relatively thick peel(2.8mm), yet it is easily separable from the flesh. Peel coloration begins in mid-October and is completed by mid-December. The average fruit weight is approximately 200g, with a high sugar content(14.3°Brix) and low acidity(0.95%), resulting in a favorable sugar-to-acid ratio for consumer preference. Notably, sucrose content is approximately 1.6times higher than that of ‘Ehimekashi No. 28’, highlighting its high-sugar trait. Although floral bud differentiation can be challenging due to strong vegetative vigor during the juvenile stage, fruit set can be improved through techniques such as branch training and girdling. As a cultivar that allows for stable harvests within the year, ‘Dalkomi’ is expected to reduce production costs for growers and provide industrial value through its differentiated harvest period and superior fruit quality.
