초기 양육기 어머니의 고통 속 성장 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구 = Phenomenological Research on Mothers who Experience Suffering and Growth in Early Motherhood

This study explored the phenomenon of experiences of Christian mothers who underwent growth by suffering at the early motherhood stage. Eight Christian mothers who experienced suffering and growth when their first child was 0∼36 months participated in this study. The data was collected mainly through in-depth interviews and participants’ baby book if possible. The collected data was analyzed by applying the descriptive phenomenological method in psychology terrain of Giorgi. The result were as follow: In suffering area, 10 essential themes, 33 emerging themes, 198 meaning units were found. In growth in suffering area, 6 essential themes, 26 emerging themes, 108 meaning units were found. In between suffering and growth area, 2 essential themes, 8 emerging themes, 32 meaning units were found. The significance of this study lied in the methodology and the object compared to previous studies. First, this study represented participants’ perspective throughly who expeienced growth in suffering at the early motherhood stage. Second, a subjective experience of posttraumic growth could be included at the general level of suffering. Lastly, a solid empirical research method was applied for addressing the suffering and growth in reality ; rather than introducing and stacking relevant ideas by literature review, Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological method was adopted.
