This paper discusses the method of reaching a therapeutic agreement through reverie in psychotherapy for counseling clients who do not exhibit normal psychological patterns due to the destruction of alpha (α)-function. The process is examined through the following steps. First, the spectrum between the two functions, [β(O) ↔ β(n-1)] ↔ [β(n+1) ↔ α(n-1)] ↔ [α(n+1) ↔ α(‘O’)] is explored. Through this subdivision of the psychological spectrum, the client’s psychological position is more specifically and delicately divided between the α-function and the β-function position, allowing for a more precise psychological description of the client to be observed. Second, in the case of client P, who has gained insight into both borderline and neurosis, but is unable to correct pathological psychological patterns, the psychological position of [borderline α(n-1) ↔ neurosis α(n+1)] is applied. Finally, the therapeutic implications of reverie for the client P are comprehensively reviewed, and through this, insights and psychotherapeutic methods for clients exhibiting pathological psychological patterns are discussed. Through this study, psychotherapy methods are expanded by incorporating reverie’s love and understanding during moments when one has to give up on oneself or others in an unchanging reality.
