한국 대학 공자학원 교재 내용에 대한 제반 검토 = Analyzes the content of textbooks adopted by Confucius Institutes in Korean universities

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논고는 한국 대학 공자학원에서 채택하고 있는 교재의 내용에 대해 분석한 것이다.
2023년 9월 기준으로 한국 대학 공자학원에서 채택하고 있는 교재는 총 156권이다. 교재 내용은 전반적으로 본래 용도에 맞게 충실하게 기술하고 있으나, 일부 내용은 교재 편저자가 의식적으로 중국 체제를 언급한 프로파간다 현상이 보인다. 중국 체제를 언급한 대목 가운데 일부는 자유민주주의 체제하의 보통 한국인이 충분히 수용할 수 있는 정도의 내용이고, 일부는 그 정도가 다소 지나치거나 한국 문화를 은근히 낮추어 본 내용도 포함되어 있다. 후자의 경우는 한국 사회나 공자학원 반대 진영은 말할 것도 없고, 한중 우호를 중요시하는 한국 공자학원조차도 받아들이기 힘들다.
우리는 한국 공자학원을 퇴출하자는 극단적인 조치를 취하기보다는 한국 교육 현장 속에 집어넣고 공존 방안을 논의해야 한다. 한국 공자학원도 상기 문제점이 다시 일어나지 않도록 스스로 바로잡을 정화 노력이 필요하다. 한국 교육 관련 기관과 한국 공자학원은 양측의 호혜 발전과 한중 우호 관계라는 대전제 아래 각종 현안을 진지하게 토의하고 상호 협조할 필요가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper analyzes the content of textbooks adopted by Confucius Institutes in Korean universities.
As of September 2023, a total of 156 types of textbooks are in use in these institutes. While the content of the textbooks generally stays true to their intended purpose, there are instances where certain content appears to overtly reference the Chinese regime, suggesting a propagandistic agenda.
Among the references to the Chinese regime, some portions are digestible for the average Korean familiar with a democratic system. However, some sections either overly emphasize Chinese narratives or subtly undermine Korean culture. Such content is not only objectionable to the Korean public and those opposing the Confucius Institute but is also challenging for those within the Korean Confucius Institute who value Korea-China friendships.
It is imperative to introduce these issues into the Korean educational discourse for consideration rather than taking drastic measures such as expelling the Korean Confucius Institute. The Korean Confucius Institute itself should engage in introspection to ensure such issues do not recur. Both Korean educational entities and the Korean Confucius Institute need to discuss various issues closely under the overarching principle of mutual growth and Korea-China friendship, emphasizing the necessity of mutual collaboration.
