국내 외국인 유학생의 일상생활에서의 정보추구행위 = International Students’ Everyday Information Seeking Behaviors in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

국내 외국인 유학생의 수가 증가하고 있으나 국내 유학생의 정보요구와 정보추구행위에 대하여 다양한 연구방법론을 사용한 폭넓은 연구는 부족한 상황이다. 본 연구는 국내로 유학을 온 해외유학생들을 대상으로 일상 관찰기록법을 사용하여 그들의 일상생활에서의 정보요구와 정보추구행위를 조사하였다. 유학생들의 정보탐색행위를 보면 전반적으로 스마트폰의 사용이 높고, 검색엔진을 많이 사용하며, 정보탐색에 대한 만족도가 높았다. 국내 거주 외국인 유학생들이 자주 찾는 정보의 주제는 건강, 학업, 쇼핑, 음식/외식, 오락, 생활 등으로 나타났다. 탐색 주제에 따라서 외국인 유학생들의 정보탐색행위에는 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 쇼핑과 음식/외식에서는 모바일 앱의 이용률이 높았으나 나머지 주제 분야에서는 검색엔진의 사용 비율이 50% 이상이었다. 특히, 학업 분야 탐색에서 학술 특화 정보원의 사용이 높지 않은 점, 유학생이나 이민자의 정보탐색에서 주요 정보원 중의 하나로 여겨지는 친구/가족이 정보원의 이용이 적은 점은 본 연구결과의 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 이와 함께, 탐색 결과와 만족도의 경우 학업 관련 정보탐색에서는 정보를 찾지 못하거나 일부만 찾았다는 비율이 높았음에도 불구하고, 탐색 결과에 만족하고 향후 탐색이 필요하지 않다는 응답이 상대적으로 높았다. 반면, 쇼핑과 생활 분야는 필요한 정보를 찾았다는 비율은 높았으나, 탐색 결과의 만족도는 오히려 낮았다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 유학생을 위한 대학도서관 서비스, 일상생활에서의 정보요구를 반영한 정보서비스 시 고려할 점, 향후 연구 방향 등에 대한 제언을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigated information seeking behaviors in daily life among international students using the method of online diary survey. In terms of information seeking behavior, it was found that smartphone usage was high overall, with a frequent use of search engines and high satisfaction with search results. The topics frequently searched by international students included health, academics, shopping, food/dining, entertainment, and living. Differences in information seeking behavior were observed depending on the topics of information needs. While mobile apps were highly utilized for shopping and food/dining, search engines were used for over 50% of the other topics. Particularly, for the academic information needs, the utilization of specialized academic information sources was not high; also, the usage of friends/family, which is considered a major source of information for international students or immigrants, was low. Additionally, for the academic information needs, despite a high proportion of respondents reporting that they were unable to find all or part of the desired information, a relatively high proportion expressed satisfaction with the search results and indicated that further searches were not necessary. On the other hand, for the shopping and living related information needs, although a high proportion of respondents reported finding the necessary information, the satisfaction with the search results was relatively low. Based on the results of this study, recommendations were discussed regarding university library services for international students, considerations for information services reflecting daily life information needs, and future research agenda.
