후기청소년 논바이너리 트랜스젠더의 삶에 대한 현상학 연구: 자아탄력성의 탐색 = A Phenomenological Study on the Life of Late Youth Non-binary Transgender: Exploring Ego Resilience

This phenomenological study is focused on the experiences of late youth non-binary transgenders in order to understand their lives and to explore their ego resilience. Thus, in-depth interviews were conducted on twelve late youth non-binary transgenders, and the collected raw data were analyzed according to Colaizzi’s phenomenological data analysis method. As a result, three categories, including ‘Gender identity formation process’, ‘Life with family’, and ‘Me within the society’, were derived along with ten theme clusters and twenty six themes. The study results presented their ego resilience based on the unique experiences, while encompassing the past, present, and future domains of the participants’ life. The study participants overcame an identity crisis period, and soon were able to face their real self. Particularly, home was an ambivalent place for them, both giving strength and posing threat. Nevertheless, the study participants did not gave up their dreams and passion for a positive future, and were proving their existence by making efforts to visualize their identity. From the result and conclusion suggested, the study expects to broaden the understanding regarding the life of the late youth non-binary transgenders, and discussed measures in terms of family and societal roles for them to strongly leap towards the future as healthy members of the society.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 후기청소년 논바이너리 트랜스젠더의 삶을 이해하고 이들의 자아탄력성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 후기청소년 논바이너리 트랜스젠더 12명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 실시하였고 수집된 원자료는 Colaizzi의 현상학적 자료분석방법 6단계에 따라 분석되었다. 분석 결과, ‘성별정체성 형성과정’, ‘원가족들과의 가정 내 생활’, ‘사회 속의 나’라는 3개의 범주, 10개의 주제결집과 26개의 주제가 도출되었다. 연구결과는 연구참여자들의 과거, 현재, 미래의 영역을 아우르는 동시에 이들만의 고유한 경험을 기반으로 한 자아탄력성을 제시해 주었다. 연구참여자들은 혼란스러운 정체화의 시기를 헤쳐 나가며, 논바이너리로서의 나를 마주하게 되었다. 특히, 이들에게 가정은 힘을 주는 동시에, 위협을 가하는 곳으로 양가적인 의미를 지니는 공간이었다. 그럼에도 연구참여자들은 긍정적인 미래를 향한 꿈과 열정을 잃지 않았으며, 가시화의 노력을하며 존재를 증명해 내고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 후기청소년 논바이너리 트랜스젠더의 삶에 대한 이해를 넓히고, 이들이 건강한 사회구성원으로서 도약할 수 있는 가족 및 사회적 방안에 대해 논의하였다.
