그리피스 존(Griffith John)의 『샹뎨진리』(上帝眞理)에 나타난 신관 및 개혁주의생명신학 관점에서의 함의 = The View of God in Griffith John’s The True Doctrine of God and Its Implications from the Perspective of the Reformed Life Theology

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper attempts to study Griffith John’s arguments of the view of God in his The True Doctrine of God(『上帝眞理』) from the perspective of the Reformed Life Theology. This text was translated into Korean by missionary Horace G. Underwood in 1891 during the early years of Korean Christianity and was first published by Christoseongseo Press(그리스도 聖書) in the same year. John’s profound view of God is based on his book The True Doctrine of God and this book fills us in on a lot of the early Christian faith in that era. John’s The True Doctrine of God covered the whole spectrum about the arguments of Christian monotheism, comparing with other Chinese traditional view of gods such as anthropolatry(sangje worship), idol worship, polytheism, pantheism, Buddhism, Taoism, popular superstition, and so on.
The important points of John’s The True Doctrine of God could be summarized as follows: Firstly, I tried to explain John’s view of God such as definition of Sanje, incommunicable attributes of Sanje(omniscience, omnipotence, invariability, aseity, Creator, infinity), various arguments for the being of God, and so forth.
Secondly, I concentrated on significant points for Christian monotheism and the accusation of idolatry such as serious error of anthropolatry, polytheism, pantheism, Buddhism, Taoism and popular superstition.
Thirdly, I treated with the confession of Soli Deo Gloria, Sola Gratia, and monotheism from the perspective of the Reformed Life Theology.
In addition, I suggest future extensions of this research into early church documents such as Salient Doctrines of Christianity(『聖敎撮理』), Bible Catechism(『聖敎問答』), Peep of Day(『訓兒眞言』), Essentials of the World’s Salvation(『救世要言單』), Seven Blessings Obtained By Believers(『七得』), An Easy Introduction to Christianity(『眞理易知』), and other related areas.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 그리피스 존(Griffith John)의 저서 『샹뎨진리』(上帝眞理)를 통해 그가 밝힌 신관에 관한 논점들을 개혁주의생명신학 관점에서 고찰하려는 데 목적이 있다. 이 문헌은 한국 기독교 전래 초기 무렵인 1891년에 선교사 언더우드에 의해 한글로 번역되었고 같은 해 그리스도성서 출판사에서 처음 발행되었다. 그리피스 존의 신관에 대한 의미심장한 관점은 이 문헌을 통해 고찰할 수 있으며, 당대 초기 기독교인들의 신앙과 관련된 여러 논점을 시사해준다. 그리피스 존의 저서 『샹뎨진리』는 인간의 신격화(상제숭배), 우상숭배, 다신론, 범신론, 불교, 도교, 민간의 미신 등 중국의 전통적인 신관에 견주어 기독교의 유일신사상 논증에 관한 전반적인 내용을 총체적으로 포괄하고 있다.
그리피스 존의 『샹뎨진리』에 나타난 중요한 논지들을 정리하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 그리피스 존의 신관과 관련하여 상제 칭호의 정의(定義), 상제의 전지성, 전능성, 불변성, 자존성, 창조자, 무한성 등 비공유적 속성들과 아울러 상제에 대한 다양한 존재증명 논증 등에 관해 설명했다.
둘째, 기독교의 유일신사상에 대한 심오한 논점들과 인간 신격화의 심각한 오류, 다신사상, 범신사상, 불교, 도교, 민간의 미신 등 주로 우상숭배의 행태를 고발하는 내용에 초점을 맞추었다.
셋째, 개혁주의생명신학 관점에서 솔리 데오 글로리아, 솔라 그라티아, 유일신사상 등에 관한 신앙고백을 다루었다.
부연하여, 본 연구자는 향후 초기 교회 문헌들에 관한 연구가 진일보 외연되어 이 주제 외에도 『셩교촬리』(『聖敎撮理』), 『셩교문답』(『聖敎問答』), 『훈진언』(『訓兒眞言』), 『구셰요언단』(『救世要言單』), 『칠득』(『七得』), 『진리이지』(『眞理易知』) 등 이와 관련된 여러 방면의 담론으로 확산되기를 바란다.
