Ryu Sung-Ryong(柳成龍) rebuilt his father Ryu Jung-young's(柳仲郢) life in a unique work called Chronology of Father's life(先考行年紀). Chronology of Father's life is a work created by Ryu Sung-Ryong in collaboration with his brother Ryu Woon-Ryong(柳雲龍). About 1573, the first creation of the Chronology was completed, and about thirty years later, the father's life was clarified through constant checking and verification of information.
There are two major differences in the Chronology of Father's life from the works of Ryu Woon-Ryong.
First, the facts were reinforced by recording specific information such as the name, date. It cited the title and contents of the literary works written in the corresponding month, and also played a role of the annals of the works.
Second, the narrative was strengthened by describing the political context before and after the event in detail, inserting dialogue, or organizing events occurring at the same time organically. He refrained from the abstract evaluation and emphasized the truthfulness of the description, accusing the political confusion of King Myeongjong(明宗) sharply. Ryu Sung-Ryong's respect for his father is revealed through such writing methods. In addition, the status of Ryu Jung-young, who survived the political turmoil, has risen.
