『시경』 속의 `소설`, 소설 속의 『시경』 -조선시대 한문소설에서의 『시경』 인용 양상 연구- = Stories in Shih Ching, Shih Ching in Novels - A Study on the Quotations of Shih Ching in Korean Chinese Classic Novels in Joseon Dynasty -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

조선시대 한문소설 가운데는 『시경』 및 다른 텍스트와 관계를 맺으며 풍부한 文化性을 띄거나 전아한 詩性을 갖거나 文化性에 대한 戱化를 시도한 경우가 많다. 이 양상을 심도 있게 고찰함으로써 그 생산성의 맥락 및 작가와 시대 의식을 조망하는 것 또한 연구의 한 유효한 방법이 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 이 유효성을 검증하기 위해, 본고에서는 『시경』이 지닌 `작은 이야기`[`小說`]적 성격을 원문텍스트와 주석텍스트로 구분해 살펴봄으로써 『시』와 소설 간의 거리를 좁히고, 소설에서 直引 또는 化用한 사례 등을 확장 조사함으로써 조선시대 한문소설에 보이는 주제별·시대별 인용 양상에 대해 다각적 접근을 시도하였다. 주제나 서술 내용을 중심으로 『시경』 인용 양상을 파악할 경우, 남녀 간의 애정을 다룬 소설에서 『시경』 인용이 특히 빈번하며 작가에 따라 『시경』 詩篇의 원전텍스트의 의미를 과감히 노출하거나 인용 방식 상의 다양한 변용을 시도하는 경우가 확인되었다. 반면 天君小說과 같이 심성윤리를 주제로 하거나 논변을 중심으로 한 경우 논거의 설득력이나 표현상의 권위 확보를 위한 『시경』 인용이 특징적으로 포착되었다. 소설의 구성요소나 서술표현 측면에 포착한 『시경』 인용은 크게 다섯 가지로 나누어 분석하였다. 먼저, 작품의 복선ㆍ명칭ㆍ인물형상 등에서 문화적으로 원용되는 사례를 고찰하였고, 賦『詩』言志의 형식을 모방하거나 『시경』의 四言體형식을 중심으로 『시경』시편을 다양하게 원용한 작품들을 소개하였다. 아울러 주제와 직접적인 관련이 없으나 산문 서사의 미적 볼륨감을 풍부히 하는 작용의 인용 양상을 살펴보았으며 『시경』 인용의 난해성으로 인해 발생하는 현상들을 일견하였다. 마지막으로는 후기로 갈수록 권위성을 지향하던 『시경』 인용이 희화화 내지 풍자화된 성격으로 인용된 경향을 분석하였다. 이러한 관찰은 한문소설에서의 『시경』 인용에 대한 역사성을 살피는 데 일정한 참고가 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The texts of Korean Chinese Classic novels often got entangled with Shih Ching and other classical texts. Through these cocktail of intertextuality, Korean Chinese Classics sometimes express their own rich `culturality`, a refined `poeticiy`, or a travesty of the so-called traditional `culturality`. This study aims to investigate this phenomenon in depth. This study tried to point out that the Shih Ching`s story-like-characteristics not only originated from the text itself, but was also cultivated from its commentaries. This process makes the distance between Shih Ching and novels closer. We also attempted to approach the various cases of direct and transformed quotations of Shih Ching in the Korean Chinese Classic novels. Focusing on the novels` theme or content description, we found out that romance stories had more concentrated on quotations of Shih Ching, and some writers had tendencies to expose Shih Ching text`s original meaning, or to try the diverse transformation in quoting. The Cheon-goon novels(天君類小說), which take the mind related ethics as a main theme, showed tendencies of quoting Shih Ching in order to build up the persuasive power of the narrators` arguments or to get a prestige of sentence expression. As for novels` components and expressions, we discussed five different aspects. Firstly, the study looked at the cases quoting Shih Ching as the foreshadow, various names and the characteristics of heros in the novels. Secondly, we introduced the examples which imitated the form of proving speaker`s point by quoting Shih Ching(賦『詩』言志) in Spring and Autumn period, and which transformed Shih Ching`s words while maintaining the four-word form originated in Shih Ching. Thirdly, the study searched the quotations which mainly had a function of illuminating the aesthetic sense of expressions. We also investigated some confusions caused by abstruseness of Shih Ching text. Finally, we presented that the novels in the late-Joseon period showed the citations for the purpose of caricature or satire. We believe that these observations would be used as reference on taking view of Shih Ching-citation`s historicity in Korean Chinese Classic Novels in Joseon Dynasty.
