노동 이주민 통합에 있어 문화와 경제의 의미: 독일 터키 이주민을 중심으로 = The cultural and economic significances in the integration of labour migrants: Turkish immigrants in Germany

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

West Germany was a typical Western European countries needed labour immigrants due to the lack of necessary workforce with post-war economic revival, Turkey was one of the countries provided rich simple workforce according to agreement with the government of West Germany in 1961. Turkish immigrants as the biggest migrant group in Germany today become one of the key topics in the problem of the integration of the migrants after German reunification, 9.11 and a series of the Islamic terrorism in Europe. Furthermore, a book published on 30th August 2010 concentrated the uncomfortable attentions of the German society to them. The fact that the author is a Social Democrat and as a financial expert not directly involved in immigrant issues gave raising expectations for the book. The result is that the book sold nearly 1.5 million copies in 15 months published. Thilo Sarrazin, a descendant of French immigrants Huguenot, warned that there are dangers: Turkish migrants due to the low emphasis on education and a high birth rate as 'Muslim distinctive' are eating the welfare finance in the short term; they get Germany into downward leveling and as a result weaken the country's competitiveness. It was a reason for the success of the book that a cliché immigrant integration issues are combined with the crisis of welfare states.
This article wants to review critically the cultural approach to the immigrants integration with the several issues raised by the Sarrazin’s book. His writings can be seen as a somehow common view of German society on the immigrants problem, because it achieved a tremendous success that the books dealing with social issues are normally difficult to find. However, his book also looks at the Turkish settlers through the Islamic/Muslim prism, therefore it is not unlike traditional cultural integration thesis. In everyday life migrants appear as a cultural phenomenon, but it would be reasonable that their essences are to be founded in their socio-economic roles as a foreign simple labor, or in the context of the labor markets. This article starts from the hypothesis.
