식민지 조선에서 문명-문화-종교의 개념적 네트워크 형성 = The Conceptual Network of Civilization-Culture-Religion in Colonial Korea

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article explores the conceptual network of civilization, culture, and religion in colonial Korea. Recent scholarship in Korea has highlighted the historical formation of important concepts such as nation, citizen, state, civilization, and literature; but less attention has been paid to how a concept was related to other concepts and changed itself over time. In this article, firstly I argue that the various conceptual relations of civilization-religion can be traced while identifying four types of religious discourse in terms of two criteria of civilization and group identity. Secondly, the article investigates some of the effects of the conceptual relation between religion and culture; religion as a strong agent of subjectification; automatic mechanism of exclusion by the concept of pseudo-religion; enlargement of the conceptual domain beyond nation.
