광역두만지역(Greater Tumen Region)의 무역원활화를 위한 연구 = Facilitating Trade in the Greater Tumen Region: An Empirical Study

Because of the lackluster performance of the GTI in the past, member countries have shown little interest in actively participating in GTI. Only recently has more attention been directed towards GTI by member countries, as the growth potential of the Russian Far East and the Northeast provinces of China were realized by policy makers. Despite the importance of the region, the inter-regional trade concentration ratio GTI has fallen recently unlike other economic cooperation mechanisms. We find that some GTI member countries have poor transportation infrastructure and lack appropriate trade facilitation measures, highlighting the necessity of the economic cooperation to facilitate trade in the region. We also find that among hard infrastructure variables, transportation infrastructure has a positive impact on the volume of trade while custom efficiency is important among the soft dimension of trade facilitation.
