This paper starts from critically recognizing that evaluation of Sa-Im-Dang until now has always been dichotomized into either an ``icon of a wise mother and good wife`` or a ``woman of self-attainment.`` Such comprehension places the behavior of care, including matemity, and self-attainment of women in a contrasting position, which makes it impossible for a new understanding and prospect on the role of a mother and also makes it difficult to comprehensively understand the context of Sa-Im-Dang``s life. With such research question in mind, through the analysis of Yul-Gokk``s ``Records of a Deceased Mother``s Life(先批行狀)``, this paper discusses how maternity and female subjectivity are not always in a mutually conflicting relationship. In addition, within the dimension of feminist ethics of care, it seeks to open the floor for discussing the trail of care that mostly women have taken responsibility for. To effectively discuss these problems, this paper first observed the technical characteristics in Yul-Gok``s ``Records of a Deceased Mother``s Life (先批行狀)`` and its presuppositions for a feminist comprehension. Then it analyzed Sa-Im-Dang``s behavior of care that is present in ``Records of a Deceased Mother``s Life(先批行狀)`` while looking at caring for others and caring for self, within the dimension of feminist ethics of care. These discussions go beyond the frequently brought up issues of self-denial and self-sacrifice, and finds the evidence for ensuring subjectivity for women within the experience of care. Through such discussions, this paper will be able to prepare a window of new evaluation and understanding about Sa-1m-Dang.
