북미 대학에서 한국 고전문학 강의와 교재 고찰 = Introduction to Pre-modern Korean Literature Studies in the United States

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The field of premodern Korean literature remains underdeveloped in the States, as most scholars and students choose twentieth-century literature. Literature in literary Chinese is, however, one of two pillars, with one in the vernacular, to understand premodern Korean literature in a diglossic tradition. In light of these circumstances, this study introduces pre-modern Korean literature studies at U.S. universities for Korean scholars in Korea who plan to research, teach, or publish books on pre-modern Korean literature-related topics in the States. This study examines widely used textbooks and researches, their contents, issues in the selection of research and translation subjects, English terms in Korean studies, Romanization systems of Korean, and international conferences and academic magazines that enable cooperation among Korean scholars inside and outside Korea.
