왕세정(王世貞)의 상인전기(商人傳記) 창작과 부고(復古)의 현실적 의미 = The Creation of Wang Shizhen`s Biography of Merchants and the Realistic Meaning of The Recovery of The Ancient Literature

This paper takes Wang Shizhen 王世貞``s biography of merchants as an example, and finds that Wang Shizhen``s Fugu was inevitably required in the process of describing contemporary reality and people``s lives, not just by copying from classics which were unrelated to the reality. Wang Shizhen``s biography of merchants describes the reality of merchants mainly located in the Southern river areas, such as Huizhou and Suzhou, particularly this paper focuses on analyzing the story of Cheng Jun 程君, Wang Xuanyi 汪玄儀, and Weng Shen 翁參. According to the analysis of this paper, through pedlary and an international trade on the Southeast Sea shores, Cheng Jun became a leading merchant; while Wang Xuanyi became a prosperous merchant of Zhejiang region based on the salt industry. Weng Shen also became a prominent merchant by seizing every corner of distribution from all directions along the Yangtze river and canal. Through the process of enhancing and assessing value of these three types of merchants, Wang Shizhen was not only able to improve the value of the actual merchant, but also brought awareness to the value of the merchant in Huo Zi Lie Zhuan, which had been forgotten for years, by comparing the merchants`` life in the Huo Zi Lie Zhuan of Shiji with the merchants of his time. This paper aims for Wang Shizhen``s Fugu to move away from the writing style of (Secretariat style) and Baguwen (the eight-legged essay) by reflecting on the tendency to interpret merelyfrom the internal literary interest, and by analyzing an artistic and realistic context of recalling the figures from “Huo Zi Lie Zhuan” to the biography of merchants, this paper reveals Wang Shizhen’s Fugu had the connoted attention to reality.
