The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of sense of community solidarity in the relationships between emotional (depression and social withdrawal) and aggressive (aggression) problems and school adjustments among adolescents so as to draw implications for adolescent welfare. That is, sense of community solidarity can be a means to facilitate school adjustment by expanding interpersonal relationships and to positively deal with emotional and behavioral problems. For the purpose of the study, authors used the secondary data analysis using The 2011 Korean Child and Youth Panel Study(KCYPS) from the National Youth Policy Institute. The total of 2,351 adolescents in 2nd grade in middle schools were included in the analysis. The structural equation model and the Sobel test were used to find out mediating effects of sense of community solidarity. The results showed that both negative emotional problems (depression and social withdrawal) and aggressive behaviors showed statistically significant negative effects on school adjustment, whereas sense of community solidarity had a significant mediating effect in the relationships between negative emotion and aggressive behaviors and school adjustment. Based on the results, authors discussed ways to enhance sense of community solidarity so as to decrease negative emotion and aggressive behaviors while helping adolescents adjust better in school.
